The very first photography exhibition I ever went too see was a series of Magnum photographers, a photographer whose name I cannot remember, and a selection of advertisements provide by United Colors of Benetton. (Interestingly enough, it was held at Columbia....)
The themes of each photograph differs, but what they share is a commentary and observation of social clichés, prejudices, and injustices. I stumbled upon these while I was browsing around tonight, and was reminded of my interest in them 15 years ago, and amazed by how relevant they still are.
