Brian Ulrich

I will get us started with something to look at for the week. Are you all familiar with Brian Ulrich's work? He is a Part time faculty member here at Columbia and at SAIC.

If not, take a look at his site Not If But When

Brian has had a lot of success with his body of work Copia including a large show in the photography department of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006.

He has recently begun working on a project documenting abandoned retail locations and malls. You can see some of this new work called Dark Stores, Ghost Boxes, and Dead Malls HERE. He was recently awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in Photography to complete this project, read an interview about it HERE

Brian has an opening of this new work at Julie Saul Gallery in New York Thursday night. Can't make it to that? Keep an eye on Rhona Hoffman Gallery who represents him in Chicago.

So what do you all think of Brian Ulrich's work? Like it/don't like it, WHY?

---Please post some new content each weekend so we can read it before Tuesdays class. Also, e-mail me your flicker ID or page address so I can post a link for your classmates to see.---
